DES MOINES, Iowa – The Iowa Wolves (9-9) and the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (6-14) were tied up 17 different times Friday night before the Vipers edged out a 130-125 victory at Wells Fargo Arena.
Two-way guard Kelan Martin finished with a team-high 23 points to go along with seven rebounds. Two other Wolves players joined him with a 20-plus point night.
Lindell Wigginton and James Webb III both provided a boost off the bench for Iowa, tallying 21 and 20 points respectively while shooting greater than 50% from the field.
As a team the Wolves bench outscored the Vipers 64-38.
Although Iowa shot 51.6% from the field, its three-point shooting suffered, converting just 9-of-38 (23.7%) from deep.
Two-way guard Jordan McLaughlin produced a well-rounded game, finishing with 19 points, a team-high eight assists and four steals, and six rebounds.
Defensively, Iowa allowed Rio Grande Valley to shoot 52.6% from the field.
Point guard Angel Rodriguez torched the net for a season-high 29 points while lifting the Vipers to their second-straight win over the Wolves this season.
