CEDAR PARK, Texas — The Austin Spurs (11-9), presented by SWBC, came back to defeat the Greensboro Swarm by a final score of 126-123 in their first overtime game of the season on Friday night in front of more than 5,000 fans at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park.
Quinndary Weatherspoon led all scorers with 30 points (12-20 FG, 4-8 3FG, 2-4 FT) to go along with 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals in 33 minutes of play. San Antonio Spurs assignee Keldon Johnson finished with 21 points (5-10 FG, 1-2 3FG, 7-8 FT) in 36 minutes of play. Spurs assignee Chimezie Metu recorded a near double-double with 8 points and 9 rebounds, while also blocking 3 shots in 26 minutes of play. Drew Eubanks finished the game with a double-double, posting 18 points and 10 rebounds in 24 minutes, while Jeff Ledbetter chipped in 16 points off the bench in 19 minutes.
The Swarm (4-17) shot .511 (23-45) from the field, .500 (8-16) from the three-point line and .800 (4-5) from the free throw line, giving them a 62-58 lead at the end of the first half.
In the second half, the game was highly contested as the score was tied twice and the lead changed six times. Weatherspoon and Johnson led the way for the Spurs in the second half scoring 16 and 12 points respectively. The Swarm held a six-point lead with 37.1 seconds left. Ledbetter scored 5 points in the final 30 seconds and Johnson knocked down two free throws with 15 seconds left to tie the game at 117 apiece and send the game into overtime.
In overtime, Eubanks scored 7 points and the Spurs ended the game on a 9-6 run allowing them to come away with a 126-123 victory in their first game of the New Year.
For the Swarm, Charlotte Hornets assignee Caleb Martin led the team in scoring with 25 points to go along with 9 rebounds and 6 assists in 41 minutes. Five other Swarm players finished with double-digit points, including Kobi Simmons (21), Thomas Welsh (16), Jalen McDaniels (13), Tyler Nelson (12) and Joel Berry II (12).
