SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Stars, the official NBA G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, came up short against the Santa Cruz Warriors 110-106 at Bruin Arena tonight.
The Stars were led by Utah Jazz two-way player Jarrell Brantley, who finished with 23 points, seven rebounds, six assists and two steals. Trevon Bluiett scored 20 points on 7-of-10 (.700) shooting, including 3-of-4 (.750) from long distance. Isaac Haas tallied a double-double off the bench with 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Jeremy Pargo paced the Warriors with 22 points in 30 minutes of play. Golden State Warriors assignment player Jordan Poole also tallied a 20-point performance with 21 points to go with six rebounds and three assists. Devyn Marble (16 points) and Juan Toscano-Anderson (14 points) also scored in double figures for Santa Cruz.
Salt Lake City jumped out to a 13-point lead (28-15) after the first 12 minutes of play. The Stars widened their lead to as many as 16 points in the second quarter, but Santa Cruz cut the lead to 10 points (55-45) going in to intermission.
The Warriors opened the third quarter with back-to-back three pointers and diminished the Stars’ lead to just one point with 8:24 left to play in the period. From that point, Santa Cruz tallied 18 points and outscored Salt Lake City 32-18 in the quarter to take a four-point lead (77-73) going in to the final frame. The fourth quarter was a back-and-forth battle with two lead changes and three ties, but Santa Cruz ultimately came out on top.
The Stars will travel to southern California to face the Agua Caliente Clippers (LA Clippers affiliate) on Tuesday, Jan. 7 at 8 p.m. (MT), which will stream live on NBAGLeague.com. Following the contest against the Clippers, the Stars will return home to Utah to begin a three-game homestand on Friday, Jan. 10, against the Memphis Hustle (Memphis Grizzlies affiliate).
