EDINBURG, Texas — The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (11-22) fell against the Agua Caliente Clippers (16-14) 109-124 on Thursday night at Bert Ogden Arena.
As the game tipped off, Agua Caliente quickly grasped a 14-7 lead over RGV. The Clippers then went on a 9-point run and extended their lead 23-11. As the buzzer signaled the end of the first quarter the Clippers extended the score 31-20.
On the offensive and defensive side, the Vipers came out on top in the first seven minutes of the second quarter as they scored 15-6 run. This still gave Agua Caliente a slight 37-35 lead over RGV.
To start the second quarter, RGV went on a 24-10 run to grasp a 46-39 lead.
The last few minutes were a battlefield as both teams fought to maintain the lead, however Agua Caliente would grasp a slight 56-55 lead to close off the second quarter.
At the end of the first half, Agua Caliente was led by three players; Los Angeles Clippers two-way players Johnathan Motley (19 points, six rebounds and three assists) and Amir Coffey (14 points) as well as Donte Grantham (19 points, six rebounds and four assists).
On the Vipers side, Isaiah Taylor led with 15 points, six rebounds and three assists. Sindarius Thornwell followed with eight points, five rebounds and four assists.
Agua Caliente picked up the momentum in the third quarter and outscored the Vipers 39-26, this gave the Clippers a 95-81 advantage to end the third.
The Clippers marinated the advantage throughout the fourth quarter and came out victorious 124-109 over the Vipers.
Motley set a new single game in points for this season with 33 points and contributed eight rebounds and three assists. Four Clippers reached double-digits in scoring starting off with Coffey (26 points, four rebounds), Grantham (18 points, 11 rebounds and six assists), Garrett Nevels (15 points, four rebounds and two assists) and Xavier Rathan-Mayes (10 points, four rebounds and seven assists). Los Angeles Clippers NBA assignment Terrance Mann led the team in rebounds with 12.
Taylor hit a double-double with 26 points, 11 rebounds and six assists. Also scoring in the double-digits were Jacobi Boykins (25 points and five rebounds), Brandon Sampson (14 points and three assists), Thornwell (10 points, eight rebounds and six assists). Matur Maker contributed 11 rebounds.
