LAKELAND, Fla. — The College Park Skyhawks used a balanced attack on offense to pick up a road win on Sunday over division rival, the Lakeland Magic, 119-115. With the win, the Skyhawks improve to 18-16 on the season and even the series against Lakeland 2-2.
The two teams ended the first quarter tied up at 30 before College Park settled into their offense in the second, taking a 59-53 lead into halftime. A layup from Tahjere McCall sparked a 7-0 Skyhawks run in the middle of the third helped push the visitor’s lead out to 11 before finishing up nine to start the final quarter of play.
After trading baskets to open the fourth, Lakeland came to life from behind the three-point line and managed to pull within three with just over 20 seconds to play. Cat Barber was fouled and knocked down both free throws to help the Skyhawks hold on for the win.
Nick Ward led College Park with a career-high 27 points (10-10 from the field) to go with eight rebounds, while McCall added 21 points, seven assists and six rebounds. Jordan Sibert finished with 21 points, 17 which came in the first half, and Barber scored nine points and handed out 11 assists in the win. Marcus Derrickson added 10 points and R.J. Hunter and Kenny Gabriel chipped in 13 and 11 points, respectively, to round out the scoring effort.
