ORLANDO, FL – The Canton Charge (1-1), powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, notched their first win of the season with a 130-114 victory over the Greensboro Swarm (0-2) on Friday afternoon at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World.
The Charge jumped out of the gate with an 8-0 run and never looked back. Two-Way player Devon Dotson notched the final five points of the first quarter to give Canton an 11-point edge after the first, 35-24.
Both offenses battled in the second, with the Swarm’s Nate Darling tallying 14 points off the bench in the quarter, including a three to tie the game with 2:32 left. The Charge responded with a 13-3 run to close out the half, capped off by a diving steal and three-pointer from Levi Randolph to take a 66-56 lead into the break.
Sheldon Mac took control of the offense in the latter part of the game, coming off the bench with a 23-point performance, 19 of which came in the second half on 7-of-9 shooting. The Charge were dominant in the paint, outscoring the Swarm 66-48.
Two-Way player Ty-Shon Alexander paced the offense with 24 points, going 5-for-10 from behind the arc. Veterans Randolph and Sir’Dominic Pointer finished with 18 and 17 points, respectively, while Pointer tied his career-best with five blocks. Dotson recorded his first professional double-double with 12 points and 10 assists and was one rebound away from the triple-double. Charles Matthews cemented the defense with a game-high three steals, with Charge team converting 13 turnovers into 26 points.
Greensboro’s Vernon Carey Jr. was unstoppable at the rim, finishing with a double-double of 32 points and 13 rebounds. Jalen McDaniels made his presence felt with 16 points and 15 boards. The first overall choice in the 2021 NBA G League Draft, Admiral Schofield, tallied 15 points and five rebounds in 28 minutes of play.
The Charge will next make their return to Fox Sports Ohio for a televised game this Sunday at 7:00 p.m. against the Oklahoma City Blue.
