ORLANDO, FL – Up by as many as 25 points, the Erie BayHawks (5-1) withstood a second-half comeback by the Magic, defeating Lakeland (3-2) 94-90 on Thursday afternoon.
Down 58-78 late in the third, Lakeland went on a 27-2 run to give itself a five-point lead with just under six minutes remaining in the game. The Magic’s run was bolstered by forwards Tahjere McCall and Mamadi Diakite.
McCall notched a double-double with a team-high tying 16 points, a game-high 14 rebounds, a team-high tying five assists and two steals in 27 minutes. Diakite also added a double-double with a team-high 20 points and 10 rebounds in 26 minutes off the bench.
After going scoreless for the first nine minutes of the fourth, the BayHawks went on a 9-0 run to regain the lead and ultimately secure the victory, thanks to the play of forwards Jordan Bell and Jarrod Uthoff.
Bell logged his third double-double in the last four games with 18 points, 13 rebounds and a game-high four blocks in 35 minutes. Uthoff contributed a double-double as well, with a season-high 26 points, 10 rebounds and two assists in 35 minutes.
