The Greensboro Swarm, the NBA G League affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets, dropped the second game of a back-to-back, 118-98, on Friday to the Memphis Hustle (Memphis Grizzlies affiliate) at AdventHealth Arena at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort. Greensboro slides to an overall record of 2-4 after the defeat.
Hornets assignment player Vernon Carey Jr. had his fourth double-double of the single-site after scoring 28 points on 11-for-22 shooting and pulling down 11 rebounds. Carey Jr. has led the Swarm in scoring in three games so far. Also in double figures for Greensboro was Admiral Schofield (12 points, seven rebounds) and Jeff Roberson (11 points, five rebounds).
Memphis (3-3) had six players score in double-digits, paced by Shaq Buchanan’s 21 points and six rebounds. The Hustle bench made a significant contribution with Bennie Boatwright (19 points, nine rebounds) and Ahmad Carver (19 points, seven assists) combining for 38 points. The Memphis bench outscored the Swarm reserves, 43-35.
Greensboro held the lead after the first quarter, 36-27. However, Memphis was able to charge back into the game and take the lead because of Swarm miscues. Greensboro turned the ball over 25 times, resulting in 21 points for the Hustle. With momentum, Memphis played aggressively on both ends of the court and had 38 assists on 45 field goals.
The Swarm return to the court on Sunday, February 21, in a highly anticipated matchup against the NBA G League Ignite. The 3:00 p.m. ET matinee will be televised locally on My48.
