LAS VEGAS (December 21, 2022) –The Rio Grande Valley Vipers defeated the Maine Celtics 105-98 during the 2021 NBA G League Showcase Cup Tournament at the Mandala Bay Convention Center.
In an extensive race for the lead the Vipers were able to pull away in the fourth quarter. All of the Vipers starters scored in the double digits with three of the starters also obtaining a double-double. Marcus Foster led the team with 21 points, 12 rebounds and six assists. Houston Rockets two-way player Daishen Nix followed with 16 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Trhae Mitchell had 15 points, 13 rebounds, four assists, two steals and three blocks.
Also scoring in the double digits were Marvin Smith Jr. (18 points, seven rebounds, and three assists), Christian Vital (15 points and six assists) and newcomer Brian Cameron who with just 16 minutes of playing time put up 11 points on the scoreboard for the Vipers.
The Maine Celtics were led by Chris Clemons who summed up 31 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Jaysean Paige obtained 21 points for the Celtics meanwhile Jahlil Tripp posted a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Kenny Wooten finished with 10 rebounds, four assists, two steals and three blocks.
