Mfiondu Kabengele led the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (7-4) to a 111-109 win over the Salt Lake City Stars (3-8) on Tuesday night at the Lifetime Activities Center-Bruin Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah.
With 0.3 seconds left in the game and a tied score of 109-109 Huston Rockets Two-Way player Trevelin Queen took a shot at the basket but missed. Kabengele then rebounded the ball and went straight for the basket resulting in a 111-109 win for the Vipers.
The first quarter was a back and forth race for both teams who wanted to obtain the lead. However, the Stars would send the quarter to an end with a lead of 30-25 over the Vipers.
In the second quarter the Salt Lake City Stars started off strong as they led 40-28 over the Vipers with 9:14 remaining on the clock. The Stars were then hit by the Vipers offense who turned a 12-point deficit into a 4-point deficit sending the game into halftime with a score of 52-56 in favor of the Stars. RGV would go on to close the Stars leading gap to one point at the end of the third quarter resulting in a score of 83-84.
RGV was led by Houston Rockets Two-Way player Daishen Nix who hit 24 points, seven rebounds and assists. Queen summed up 23 points, four rebounds and five assists. Christian Vital tallied 16 points, five rebounds and five steals. Trhae Mitchell posted his third consecutive double-double with 15 points and a career high 17 rebounds. Anthony Lamb finished the night with 10 points and six rebounds.
Jared Wilson Frame led Salt Lake City with 27 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Derrick Alston Jr. contributed 22 points, and eight rebounds to the team. Carsen Edwards obtained 20 points. Yoeli Childs had a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Rayvonte Rice summed up 12 points and seven rebounds. MaCio Teague rounded up the list of double digits in scoring with 10 points.
