LONG ISLAND (Feb. 27, 2022) – The Long Island Nets, the NBA G League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets, overcame the Motor City Cruise 113-109 on Sunday evening at Nassau Coliseum. Tonight’s game marked the sixth consecutive win for the Nets.
Long Island’s scoring effort was led by forward Craig Randall II, who tallied 28 points, six rebounds and seven assists in 39 minutes. Nets forward Tyrone Wallace recorded 25 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in 41 minutes. Long Island center Thon Maker added 16 points and nine rebounds, while shooting 7-of-8 from the field in 24 minutes.
Long Island controlled play in the opening minutes of the first quarter, as the Nets led Motor City by double, 14-7. The Nets maintained their lead to close the first 12 minutes ahead by two, 23-21. Both teams got into back-and-forth play to begin the second quarter until Motor City went on an 11-2 run to head into halftime up by seven, 58-51.
Motor City tried to widen the gap, but the determined Nets came into the third quarter looking to make their return. The tides turned for the Cruise when Long Island went on its own 13-4 run to reclaim the lead and close the third quarter ahead by six, 79-73. Motor City and Long Island carried their back-and-forth play into the final quarter with both teams eager to close. Although Motor City outscored Long Island in the fourth, 36-34, the Nets’ strong performance pushed Long Island past Motor City by four, 113-109.
Cruise guard Saben Lee recorded a game-high 37 points, four rebounds and seven assists in 39 minutes. Detroit two-way forward Jamorko Pickett tallied 15 points, three rebounds and two assists in 37 minutes. Motor City center Cheick Diallo added a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds in 30 minutes.
The Nets will play their next game at home against Delaware on Wednesday, March 2, at 7 p.m. ET, while Motor City will return home to face Westchester on Thursday, March 3, at 11 a.m. ET.
