BRIDGEPORT, CT– March 31, 2022 – The Westchester Knicks, the official NBA G League affiliate of the New York Knicks, overpowered the Fort Wayne Mad Ants 131-110, on Thursday night at Total Mortgage Arena. With the victory, Westchester is currently in eighth place in the Eastern Conference and is half a game behind Grand Rapids for the final spot in the 2022 NBA G League Playoffs. Westchester must win its final game on Saturday for any chance at the postseason.
Six players scored in double-figures for the Knicks (17-14), with Feron Hunt (Two-Way), Louis King (returning rights), and Aamir Simms (Affiliate) each dropping 19 points on the night. In addition, Hunt pulled down seven rebounds, King had eight boards and six assists, and Simms shot 80-percent from the field. Dewan Hernandez (returning rights) did a little bit of everything with 16 points, eight rebounds, a career-high tying four steals, and three blocks. Coming off the bench, Quinton Rose (returning rights) chipped in with 16 points on 70-percent shooting, six rebounds, and a career-high tying four steals. Tra Holder (available player pool) contributed a solid outing as well with 14 points, a career-high tying eight assists, and seven rebounds.
Fort Wayne (16-17) was led by 19 points from Darius Adams. Andrew Rowsey finished with 17 points, while Nate Hinton and Troy Baxter Jr. went for 15 points apiece.
The teams traded baskets to start the contest, as both teams felt an early rhythm. With the score tied 19-up at the 4:08 mark of the first, the hosts caught fire, using a 14-2 blast to close the opening period up 33-21.
After the Knicks led 44-31 with 8:49 to play in the second, the Mad Ants knocked in 14 consecutive points to take a 45-44 advantage with 6:15 on the clock. The game remained tight for the rest of the half, with Fort Wayne taking a slim 59-58 edge to the locker room.
Coming off the break, the back-and-forth battle ensued, with both teams trying to break through. Following a Westchester 73-72 lead with 4:29 left in the third, the hosts scored eight straight points for an 81-72 cushion with a little over three minutes to go in the quarter. Both sides swapped baskets to finish the quarter with a 95-83 Knicks advantage.
Westchester opened the final frame scorching hot, rattling off 16 unanswered points to push their lead to 111-83 with 8:42 remaining. The game never got close again, with the home team cruising to the 21-point victory.
The two teams will do it again on Saturday, April 2 at 7 PM ET in the final game of the regular season.
