Raptors 905 (24-8), NBA G League affiliate of the Toronto Raptors, defeated the Greensboro Swarm (9-23) 119-113 in a back-and-forth game that resulted in 17 ties and 15 lead changes Saturday afternoon. The 905 were led by Justin Champagnie who put up 28 points, 15 rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Hornets’ assignee James Bouknight led the Swarm contributing 27 points, seven rebounds, four assists, two steals, and two blocks in the loss.
The two teams traded baskets to open the ball game before the Swarm were able to come away with the early six-point lead after the opening 12 minutes. The home side fought back in the second, outscoring the visitors 33-29 led by Josh Hall’s 10 second quarter points to bring the game within two at the break.
The two teams went head-to-head, trading baskets in the third. Champagnie tallied nine of his 28 points in the quarter, helping his team tie the game at 91 heading into the final frame. The 905 outscored their opponents in the fourth, where Dalano Banton contributed 13 points, four rebounds, and four assists. The Swarm mounted a comeback bid late in the frame but were stifled by the 905’s defense.
The 905 received complementary scoring from Raptors’ assignee Dalano Banton who added 21 points, seven rebounds, and nine assists in the victory while Kai Jones paced the Swarm with 14 points, 12 rebounds, two steals, and four blocks assists in the match.
The Raptors 905 now head into the NBA G League playoffs where they have earned a first round bye. Playoff details will be released by the NBA G League following the competition of the regular season.
