Derrick Walton Jr., a two-way player for the Miami Heat, finished the 2018 NBA G League Showcase on a strong note Saturday. The former Michigan Wolverine scored 25 points, dished 10 assists and snatched seven rebounds to pace the Sioux Falls Sky Force past the Raptors 905, 108-107.
Walton knew he had to rise to the occasion and secure a win to close out the Showcase on a good note. He knew that he had to rise to the occasion since the competition throughout the NBA G League requires him to perform at his best at all times.
“It’s interesting, because it is pretty much the same players that I have been playing against while I was growing up, and we are all getting better and better each and every year, so the competition is no slouch,” said Walton.
It was important for Walton and the rest of his Skyforce teammates to come out today with everything they had and avenge their loss in day 1 of the Showcase. Walton mentioned that they did just that.
“We took a loss yesterday, so there is always a chance to bounce back, and we wanted to take advantage of it,” he said. “I think that we did everything that was possible to get this win. We made some timely shots, and got some huge stops when we needed them.”
Walton will use his most recent performance as momentum for the rest of the season, with Sioux Falls and when the chance comes to play with the big dogs in Miami again.
