Johnathan Motley has been one of the best all-around players in the 2018 NBA G League Showcase. His Texas Legends (affiliate of Dallas Mavericks) ended the week with a 2-0 record.
In the first game against the Wisconsin Herd (Milwaukee Bucks affiliate), Motley produced 24 points, 14 rebounds, six steals and five assists in the 124-113 victory. In Game 2, Motley put up 23 points, 18 rebounds and four blocks, leading the Legends to a 109-93 victory over the Greensboro Swarm (affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets).
Motley has some experience up in the NBA this season, and is looking forward to his next chance at contributing to the Mavs. He talked about his mindset when he is in the G League playing with the Legends.
“I try to come out every day the same way,” Motley said. “To produce and dominate every game that I am down here. Constantly trying to get better.”
Being one of the few guys that has had the opportunity to play at both the NBA and G League levels this season, Motley has learned a lot so far throughout the process.
“I feel like I bring back a lot of new knowledge,” said Motley. “The NBA is filled with so many good players — smart players. They all have a higher basketball IQ up there. Getting a chance to play against the Warriors this year was awesome.”
Motley clearly has the mindset that is needed to do well at the next level, and it comes as no surprise that he has been outstanding in the NBA G League for the Texas Legends.
