The Windy City Bulls entered the NBA G League during the 2016-2017 season under the ownership of the NBA’s Chicago Bulls. Windy City was the 13th team in G League history to be owned and operated by an NBA Team.

The organization held a name-the-team contest with the options “Heartland Bulls,” Great Lakes Bulls,” and “Windy City Bulls.” In February of 2016, the Chicago Bulls announced that the franchise would be named the Windy City Bulls.

Windy City is the first NBA G League franchise to call the state of Illinois their home. The team plays their home games about 25 miles away from downtown Chicago in Hoffman Estates, Illinois at the Sears Centre.

Windy City won 23 and 24 games respectively in their first two seasons. The Bulls improved from a 5th-place Central division finish during the 2016-2017 season to a 3rd-place Central division finish in the 2017-2018 season.

Former Chicago Bulls two-way player Antonio Blakeney was an important piece in Windy City’s improvement last season. Blakeney was named NBA G League Rookie Of The Year and earned All-NBA G League Second Team and NBA G League All-Rookie Team honors after averaging 32 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.2 steals in 32 G League games. This offseason, Blakeney signed an NBA-level contract with the Chicago Bulls.
