Best Games To Watch This Week: Nov. 7

Joe DiProsperos /November 7, 2022

With opening weekend now in the rearview mirror, the first full week of G League action is finally here. The upcoming slate of games will feature a few teams off to strong early starts, a pair of top picks from this year's draft going at it for the first time, and a playoff rematch from last year.

Here's what will be worth paying attention to over the next few days.

Memphis Hustle v. Mexico City Capitanes (Nov. 7 at 10 pm/et on NBAGLeague.com)

Both Memphis and Mexico City came out of the gate with wins in their opening matchups against the Lakeland Magic and the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, respectfully. All nine players that saw action for Memphis scored in double figures, with Justin Bean logging a team-high 22 points and Dakota Mathias (15 PTS, 11 AST) and Jacob Gilyard (11 PTS, 11 AST) each recording double-doubles. Furthermore, Mexico City rode a 32-point, 8-rebound effort from Mason Jones and a 14-point, 14-rebound game from Gary Clark to a commanding 36-point victory over Rio Grande Valley. In the process, the Capitanes held the defending champs and the league's top offense from a year ago to just 84 points on 30.3% shooting from the field.

Cleveland Charge v. Wisconsin Herd (Nov. 9 at 7 pm/et on ESPN+)

Heading into their first matchup of the season, the top-two picks in this year's G League draft have already provided winning contributions. Number-one-overall pick Sam Merrill, despite a relatively quiet game (12 PTS, 4 AST), hit the game-winning three for the Cleveland Charge on opening night against the Motor City Cruise, the first OT target score game-winner in league history. On the other hand, second-overall pick Joe Wieskamp is averaging 23 points over the Herd's first two games of the year, posting a game-high 30 points to go along with 9 rebounds in a win over the Windy City Bulls.

Capital City Go-Go v. Delaware Blue Coats (Nov. 10 at 7 pm/et on ESPN+)

Capital City and Delaware have two things in common: both are coming off of playoff berths this past year, and both split their first two games of the season. After getting blown out by Greensboro, Delaware bounced back with a win the very next day against the Swarm. Newcomers Michael Foster Jr. and Mac McClung have been leading the way so far, with the former logging over 22 points and 8 rebounds per contest. Meanwhile, the Go-Go split their opening two games with Raptors 905, dropping a close one on opening night before recovering with a dominant 18-point victory. Former Hornets big man Vernon Carey Jr. has gotten off to a great start for Capital City, posting double-doubles in both games while averaging 18 points and over 11 rebounds per outing.

Birmingham Squadron v. Texas Legends (Nov. 12 at 8:30 pm/et on NBAGLeague.com)

This will be a rematch of last year's opening round of the Western Conference playoffs which Texas ultimately came out of victorious. The Legends opened their season by splitting their first two in Austin, with McKinley Wright IV and Jaden Hardy both averaging better than 26 points per game to go along with James Banks III logging 4 blocks in both contests. They'll go up against a Birmingham team that dropped their season opener at home against the Lakeland Magic. Despite the loss, Kelan Martin dropped 37 points, hitting 6 threes in the process, while rookie Dereon Seabron contributed 24 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals off the bench.
