Pistons’ Andre Drummond on Quincy Miller: “The Kid Looks So Good”

By Brian Kotloff | June 8, 2015

In just four years, Quincy Miller went from can’t-miss Baylor recruit to second-round pick to NBA Development League prospect.

But after a stellar run with the D-League’s Reno Bighorns, which led to a GATORADE Call-Up to Detroit, Miller is working his way back up.

The 22-year-old earned high praise from Pistons center Andre Drummond this week as Miller prepares to crack Stan Van Gundy’s rotation. From Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press:

“He put on 16 pounds of muscle,” Drummond said of Miller at the Detroit Institute of Arts on Tuesday evening. “The kid looks so good. He’s going to be a big part of our team, too.”

That will be good news for fans if the slender 6-foot-9 prospect could help adjust the Pistons’ line of thinking this off-season. If the Pistons deem Miller worthy of a roster spot, it could slightly affect plans for the upcoming draft and free agency.

“He’s playing really well,” Drummond said. “He’s just been in the gym each and every day, taking his workout seriously, eating well. He’s not really slacking off. The coaching staff’s excited. I talked to all the weight coaches about him today and they say he comes in here with the mind-set he wants to be a part of this team and really wants to work.”

Miller appeared in 10 games after signing with Detroit in February (he was also called up to the Kings in January), averaging 2.9 points in 11.9 minutes.

Ranked as NBADLeague.com’s No. 1 prospect for much of the season, he led the league in scoring (23.6 PPG) and blocks (3.3 BPG) during a 17-game stint with Reno before also appearing in three games on assignment with the Pistons’ affiliate in Grand Rapids.
