G League Power Rankings: Regular Season Week 10
Joe DiProsperos /March 8, 2023
It’s Wednesday, so that means it’s time for yet another fresh slate of G League Power Rankings!
Much like last week, the top of the list is largely the same. Long Island is still top dog as their stretch of dominance only grows larger by the day and look like the clear-cut best team in the G. Stockton did manage to leapfrog Memphis after jumping into first in the West while South Bay and Delaware once again round out the top five.
There is some other movement to take note of. Most notably, Raptors 905 has made the list after vaulting themselves into playoff contention with strong play heading into the stretch run.
Check out where things currently stand at the moment.
1. Long Island Nets
Record: 21-3 (1-0 this week)
Previous ranking: 1
There is just simply no stopping Long Island. In addition to clinching a playoff spot, their 114-102 victory over Motor City on March 7 made it 15-straight victories, the third-longest overall and second-longest in-season streak in G League history. Once again, it was the usuals getting the job done: David Duke Jr. logged a game-high 29 points along with 5 assists, Jordan Bowden supplemented him with 20 points on 8/11 shooting, and Dru Smith contributed 19 points and 8 assists off the bench. The best team in the G has been an absolute machine with no signs of slowing down.
2. Stockton Kings
Record: 19-6 (3-0 this week)
Previous ranking: 3
After reeling off five wins in a row, Stockton now finds themselves at the top of the Western Conference. Per usual, this run of success has been a total team effort, with nine players averaging more than 10 points per game over this streak. In addition, four different players (Keon Ellis, Jordan Ford, DJ Steward and Neemias Queta) have finished as the leading scorer, though rookie Keon Ellis has been leading the way in averaging 16.2 points per game in his last five outings. The only team right now with top-five rankings in offensive and defensive rating, this is as complete a collective as you’ll find.
3. Memphis Hustle
Record: 18-6 (1-1 this week)
Previous ranking: 2
Despite the absence of leading scorer Kenneth Lofton Jr. over their past few games, the Hustle have found ways to remain at the top of the West. While their Feb. 28 win over Grand Rapids saw seven players score 13 or more points, they got a major boost a few nights later from big man Matt Hurt. He went off for a career-high 30 points to go along with 5 blocks in a convincing win against Austin. With positive contributions coming from just about everywhere, there’s no doubt Memphis has everything they’d need for a deep playoff run.
4. South Bay Lakers
Record: 17-8 (2-1 this week)
Previous ranking: 4
Shaq Harrison has been Mr. Do-It-All for South Bay of late. Over his last three games, the reigning G League Defensive Player of the Year has averaged 19.0 points, 10.3 rebounds, 7.7 assists and 2.3 steals per contest. He’s coming off quite possibly his most impressive outing of the season against Sioux Falls in which he logged a 26-point, 13-rebound, 10-assist triple-double and also added 4 steals to boot. As South Bay continues to very much be in contention for the West’s top seed, Harrison figures to play a key part in that quest.
5. Delaware Blue Coats
Record: 17-7 (1-0 this week)
Previous ranking: 5
Mac McClung’s run of dominance after showing out during All-Star festivities has only continued. He most recently took home G League Player of the Week honors after averaging over 28 points and 4 assists while shooting better than 61% from three-point range over his last three games. He’s been supplemented by some excellent play from backcourt mate Jaden Springer, as he’s averaged 21.7 points, 8.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.7 steals per game in that same stretch. Continue to keep an eye out for this squad moving forward.
6. Mexico City Capitanes
Record: 16-9 (1-1 this week)
Previous ranking: 6
Rigoberto Mendoza and Gary Clark have been dynamite for Mexico City as they continue to vie for one of the West’s top seeds. In the Capitanes’ March 5 win over Capital City, the duo combined for 57 points, with Mendoza dropping a game-high 29 points along with 5 rebounds and 5 assists while Clark added 28 points and 8 rebounds. This team has already been missing its top scorer in Mason Jones due to an extended absence, so the emergence of Mendoza and Clark is very much a welcome sight.
7. Maine Celtics
Record: 15-10 (1-2 this week)
Previous ranking: 7
As he has been for an overwhelming majority of the season, Luka Samanic remains the driving force behind Maine’s top-notch offense. He’s logged at least 25 points and 5 rebounds in three of his last four games, which included a 43-point, 7-rebound effort against South Bay on March 2. Meanwhile, Scottie Lindsey has also stepped up recently, averaging over 16 points in his last three games including an uber-efficient 31 points on 8/10 shooting, including 6/8 from three-point territory, in a March 5 win over Ontario. This is a team still very capable of beating anyone.
8. Salt Lake City Stars
Record: 16-10 (2-1 this week)
Previous ranking: 8
After spending time with the Utah Jazz at the end of February, Frank Jackson has returned to Salt Lake City and it’s like he never left. In his first game back, all he did was go off for a season-high 45 points on 17/23 shooting, including 7/12 from three-point range, in the Stars’ victory over Texas on March 6. It was his fourth game this season with at least 7 made threes, tied for the second-most such performances in the G. Owners of the league’s fourth-best offensive rating, Jackson and Salt Lake City continue to make noise.
9. Raptors 905
Record: 13-10 (3-0 this week)
Previous ranking: N/R
A four-game winning streak over the past week and a half now has Raptors 905 in a prime position to earn a playoff berth. Over this stretch of games, they own top-four rankings in both offensive and defensive rating while also logging the second-best assist-to-turnover ratio (1.97). Jeff Dowtin Jr. has been stringing together excellent two-way performances for them of late, averaging 23.7 points, 5.7 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.0 blocks per game over his last three outings. Things are starting to click at the right time for this team.
10. Cleveland Charge
Record: 14-11 (1-1 this week)
Previous ranking: 10
While Sharife Cooper and Isaiah Mobley have carried a majority of the offensive load for the Charge, Jamorko Pickett has still been an invaluable piece of this team’s success. He’s currently averaging 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 1.3 blocks per game, the only eligible player in the league posting that kind of statline. He’s been providing exactly the kind of production Cleveland will need down the stretch of the season to maintain their playoff positioning.
