Isaiah Thomas Drops 45 Points In Grand Rapids Return
By NBA G League Staff /February 23, 2022
A lot has happened since December 15. Whether it was a flurry of NBA Call-Ups or seeing the G League showcase its talent at NBA All-Star 2022 this past weekend, one thing has remained true: Isaiah Thomas is still a bucket.
The NBA veteran's basketball journey has been one of many twists and turns, but when he debuted for the Grand Rapids Gold that December night and dropped a cool 43 points (5 3PM), 7 rebounds, and 7 assists, it wasn't shocking to see him take a step right back into the NBA. After a pair of 10-day contracts with the Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks, Thomas finds himself in a similar situation to that in Grand Rapids 71 days ago. Today, Thomas scored 45 points. Today, Thomas continued his journey back to the NBA. And today, the basketball world was yet again put on notice.

The guard, who has donned the nickname "King of the Fourth," was just that for the Gold tonight, scoring 21 of his points in the final frame during a 117-116 loss to the Windy City Bulls. He added in 5 assists and 5 triples for Grand Rapids, shooting 14-27 from the field. Second-year guard Devon Dotson scored a career-high 34 points for the Bulls, fending off what would've been a textbook return for Thomas had the Gold been able to leave with a win.
Thomas played in four games with the Lakers, scoring 19 points against the Timberwolves in his season debut on Dec. 17, then followed that up with a 13-point performance against the Bulls two days later in his only start of the year. The veteran appeared in one game with the Mavericks, scoring 6 points off the bench in a loss to the Kings on Dec. 29. He was reacquired by the Gold on Feb. 15.
