Memphis Hustle Complete Draft-Day Trade With Canton Charge

Memphis, Tenn. — The Memphis Hustle, the NBA G League affiliate of the Memphis Grizzlies, added four players today in the 2017 NBA G League Draft by acquiring the rights to first round pick (19th overall) Cullen Russo and second round pick (46th overall) Shaquille Thomas in a trade with the Canton Charge and selecting guards Cordarius Johnson and Kyle Randall in the fourth round. In exchange, the Hustle sent the rights to first round pick (17th overall) Maxsym Pustozvonov and third round pick (69th overall) Jalen Jones.

Russo spent two seasons (2015-17) at Fresno State University where he appeared in 60 games (33 starts) and averaged 7.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.72 steals in 25.5 minutes per game. As a junior in 2015-16, he was named Mountain West All-Conference Honorable Mention by the media.

Thomas spent time in both the NBA G League (Austin Spurs) and Argentina’s Liga A (Gimnasia Indalo) during his first pro season in 2016-17. The Cincinnati product played in six games with Gimnasia Indalo and averaged 4.5 points, 2.3 rebounds and 0.5 assists in 11.9 minutes.

Johnson played four seasons (2010-14) at Louisiana Tech, appearing in 136 games (72 starts) and averaging 7.4 points, 3.2 rebounds and 0.8 assists in 20.2 minutes per game. Johnson appeared at this year’s Memphis Hustle Open Tryout.

Randall, a Central Michigan product, appeared in 13 games (11 starts) last season for KK Konstantin Nis of the Serbian KLS and averaged 16.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.62 steals in 33.6 minutes per game. Additionally, Randall owns NBA G League career averages of 4.1 points, 1.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 15.1 minutes over 28 games (one start). In his one season at Central Michigan (2012-13), he was named to the All-MAC Second Team. Randall played his first three seasons (2009-12) at UNC Greensboro.
