Play of the Game: Charge F Eric Moreland throws down the alley-oop slam
After going 23-27 in their inaugural season, Raptors 905 entered Year 2 with a familiar face at the helm: Jerry Stackhouse. Transitioning from assistant coach in Toronto to head coach in Mississauga, the NBA vet inherited a team still trying to establish its identity.
That changed from the jump with Stack in charge. The 905 raced out to a 10-2 record and have sat atop the league almost wire-to-wire this season. Their 39 regular season wins were the second most in NBA D-League history. Stackhouse transformed the 905 into a juggernaut that spread the wealth offensively and buckled down on the other end, posting the league’s best defensive rating.
But they have their hands full in the Charge, who have reached the playoffs for a league-high sixth straight season. Canton is led by two of the league’s most NBA-ready prospects, two-way wing John Holland and defensive stud Eric Moreland in the middle. The Charge could also receive a boost from Cleveland if the Cavs keep rookie guard Kay Felder — who’s scored 25 points in all 11 games he’s played with Canton — and returning vet Larry Sanders on assignment.
The 905 will look for Axel Toupane and CJ Leslie to pace their balanced attack, 7-foot-2 Edy Tavares to anchor them defensively and Brady Heslip to light it up from deep.
