The 2019 NBA G League International Challenge in Montevideo, Uruguay has officially wrapped up, with FC Bayern Munich taking home the championship with a 93-84 victory over the NBA G League Elite in the tournament finals. The event included 5 other teams along with the NBA G League Elite, including FC Bayern Munich (Germany), San Lorenzo (Argentina), Flamengo (Brazil), Capitanes de Ciudad de Mexico (Mexico) and the Uruguay Elite Team (Uruguay).
The NBA G League Elite was comprised of 10 former NBA G League players including Paul Watson (Westchester Knicks), Dusty Hannahs (Memphis Hustle), Brandon Ashley (Texas Legends), Xavier Munford (Wisconsin Herd), Haywood Highsmith (Delaware Blue Coats), Abdul Gaddy (Oklahoma City Blue), Duane Notice (Raptors 905), BJ Johnson (Lakeland Magic), Aaron Epps (Northern Arizona Suns) and Doral Moore (Memphis Hustle). Former UCF Knight Chad Brown was also a member of the squad. Paul Watson led the team in scoring with 14.3 points per game on 48.7% shooting from the field and 43.8% shooting from beyond the arc. Dusty Hannahs, who received an NBA Call-Up from the Memphis Hustle to the Memphis Grizzlies last season, finished second on the team in scoring, posting a line of 14 points and 2.8 rebounds per game on an impressive 52.9% shooting from beyond the arc.
Leading the team on the boards were Chad Brown and Brandon Ashley, who averaged 7.3 rebounds per game and 6.8 rebounds per game, respectively. Abdul Gaddy paced the NBA G League Elite in passing, with 5 assists per contest. As a team, the NBA G League Elite shot 37.2% from beyond the arc and 50.5% from the field throughout pool play and the tournament.
The NBA G League Elite advanced to the championship tournament with pool play wins over Capitanes de Ciudad de Mexico (86-75) and the Uruguay Elite Team (103-63). The team then won their Semifinals match-up against Flamengo (87-83) before falling to FC Bayern Munich in the title game on Sunday evening. Leading the way for FC Bayern Munich in the championship game was former NBA center Greg Monroe, who tallied a game-high 25 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists.
