What a weekend it was. This past weekend in the NBA G League featured multiple record-setting performances, incredible individual plays and an exciting matchup between two well-known NBA veterans. Here’s a look at some of the biggest moments from the past few days.
Angel Delgado Becomes Top NBA G League Rebounder In Multiple Respects
Angel Delgado emerged this weekend as the NBA G League’s top rebounder (14.5 RPG), and made sure to make quite a splash upon taking ownership of such a slot. Putting on a clinic on how to crash the glass and do the dirty work, the Clippers Two-Way Player pulled down a league-record 31 boards in his team’s 112-94 Friday win over the Blue. Delgado also scored 22 points in the contest, with his activity under the basket clearly translating to success in other areas. As evidenced below, he’s having quite the season and this was just further proof. Delgado surpassed the previous mark of 29, set by Jack Cooley in 2015. Not to be completely outmatched, Cooley reached a milestone of his own with an engagement this weekend.
Shannon Scott’s Success Doesn’t Stop At Setting A Record Of His Own
Clearly 2019 is agreeing with Long Island Nets guard Shannon Scott. The Ohio State product ushered in the new year with a franchise-record 20 assists on January 2, but he’s already well on his way to proving he’s capable of being so much more than merely an one-hit wonder. On Saturday, the young gun helped his team rally toward a lead that once amassed 30 points, with Scott himself boasting a plus/minus of +35 for the contest. He pieced together a rather impressive triple-double with 17 points, 16 assists, and 11 rebounds while helping Long Island secure a commanding early lead over the Raptors 905 and never look back.
Wizards Two-Way Player Devin Robinson and Windy City Bulls Forward CJ Fair Pull Off Top Plays
While the likes of Delgado and Scott stuffed the stat sheet, Devin Robinson decided to awe the crowd with yet another high-flying slam when he threw the hammer down vs. Canton, whil CJ Fair proved that perseverance is key with a miraculous tip-in that sent Windy City home with an exciting win and landed Fair an appearance on SportsCenter’s Top 10 plays.
Wizards Two-Way Player Jordan McRae Sparks An Exciting Finish On NBA TV
The NBA G League’s game of the week on NBA TV certainly lived up to its highly respectable billing. In a contest headlined by big league veterans Jordan McRae (Capital City Go-Go) and John Jenkins (Westchester Knicks), the two teams battled back and forth, with everything coming to a head with a very eventful finish. The game’s two final minutes of regulation featured a buzzer-beating shot, a coach’s challenge and some key changes in possession before Capital City eventually held on to win in overtime. The winning team was paced by McRae’s 26 points (he converted on 12 of 13 shots from the charity stripe), while Jenkins added 22 despite the Knicks’ losing effort.
