Short-Handed No. 5 Nets Advance To Eastern Conference Semifinals Over No. 4 Go-Go

WASHINGTON (April 2, 2024) – The Long Island Nets, the NBA G League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets, defeated the Capital City Go-Go, 120-118, in the First Round of the NBA G League Playoffs on the road Tuesday evening.
Long Island was led by Brooklyn two-way guard Jacob Gilyard with a career-high 32 points to go along with 10 assists, eight rebounds and six steals in 48 minutes. Brooklyn two-way guard Keon Johnson posted 25 points, six rebounds, eight assists and one steal in 42 minutes. Long Island guard Kyler Edwards tallied 24 points, seven rebounds, two assists and one block in 42 minutes. Nets center Patrick Gardner added 12 points, four rebounds, one steal and two blocks in 19 minutes. Long Island center David Muoka recorded 10 points, nine rebounds and four blocks in 29 minutes.
The two teams went back-and-forth to begin the first quarter, tying the match seven times. Long Island shot 48.0 percent from the field to close the period ahead by five, 33-28. Capital City worked diligently to close the gap in the second quarter, outscoring Long Island 39-28. The Go-Go closed the first half ahead by six, 67-61.
Long Island battled hard in the third quarter to turn the tides, outscoring Capital City 35-31. Despite the Nets’ efforts, the Go-Go closed the period ahead by two, 98-96. Long Island continued to strike Capital City in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Go-Go 24-20. Consecutive fouls on both teams kept the match tied until a driving layup by Brooklyn two-way guard Jacob Gilyard put the Nets on top in the final three seconds. Long Island went on to defeat Capital City by two, 120-118.
Wizards two-way forward Justin Champagnie tallied 25 points, six rebounds, six assists and one steal in 39 minutes. Capital City guard Hamidou Diallo posted 24 points, eight rebounds, two assists and one steal in 30 minutes.
Long Island will advance to face Osceola on the road in the NBA G League Eastern Conference Semifinals on Friday, April 5, at 7 p.m. ET.
