Texas Legends Finish Record-Breaking Season
Official Release /May 4, 2023
FRISCO, TX, (May 4, 2023) - The Texas Legends finished a record-breaking season inside the Comerica Center and out in the community. Taking the business of basketball in the G League to new heights, Texas recorded new league-wide highs in attendance and events and finished as the highest performing team in a number of categories.
“Our goal is not to sell the most tickets or bring in the most sponsorship dollars,” said Legends President Malcolm Farmer. “Our goal, this year and every year, is to get the community involved in every way possible and put as many smiles on faces as we possibly can. Success for us looks like lasting memories made by families, but seeing the numbers we hit along the way means we’re doing our jobs right.”
For the tenth season, the Legends were the only team in professional sports to wear a different jersey at every home game. With the charity jersey night program, 24 different non-profits get to experience the spotlight at the Legends’ games, culminating in over 1.3 million impressions as well as in-arena exposure to gain volunteers, partners, and donors.
The Legends Family set a record with more than 35 events across the five-month season. Networking, bowling, golfing, and many more opportunities to build relationships in a fun, meaningful way.
In their 12th season at the Comerica Center, the Legends broke numerous records in ticket sales and attendance for the franchise, arena, and G League. Over 143,000 fans attended a game in the 2022-23 season, and 49,262 of those showed up in January marking a new G League record for attendance in a single month.
“Our impact should stretch far beyond the court and arena, and as such we place a huge priority on community outreach. Our players and staff are out serving weekly. We partner with a number of organizations like Thrivent and the North Texas Municipal Water District to host free community and STEM-specific clinics. We love basketball, but basketball is just the platform we use to do the work that really matters.”
The Legends hosted more than 50 events and 40 clinics during the season, serving over 67,000 people through outreach initiatives. The community outreach efforts continue 12 months out of the year including programming like the Mission of the Month that collects urgent-need items for a different local non-profit each month.
“We are far more than a basketball team. We aim to be the best entertainment period, to host games and events that people remember, that are accessible and impactful. And we work to showcase that year-round, to keep our fans engaged and to keep serving this community no matter what season it is. No award can encompass what Legends Land truly means to each of us.”
