Troy Williams Brings the Thunder to Win NBA D-League Dunk Contest

Iowa Energy rookie Troy Williams spun, reversed, windmilled and double-pumped his way to the 2017 NBA D-League Slam Dunk Contest crown on Saturday afternoon in New Orleans.

Before Aaron Gordon and the NBA’s high-flyers took the stage on All-Star Saturday Night, Williams dethroned 2016 NBADL champ John Jordan as the minor leaguers put on another show.

Both Williams and Jordan tallied 50s with their second dunks of the first round to advance past Alfonzo McKinnie (Windy City Bulls) and Trahson Burrell (Long Island Nets) and into the finals.

From there, Williams outscored Jordan 85-77 in the finals.

After going undrafted, the rookie out of Indiana spent the first three months of the season with the Memphis Grizzlies, the Energy’s affiliate. He was waived on Jan. 30 and re-acquired by the Energy four days later.
