Player: Tyler Davis
College: Texas A&M (2015-2018)
Height/Weight: 6-foot-10, 265 pounds
NBA Team/NBA G League Affiliate: Oklahoma City Blue/Oklahoma City Thunder
College Breakdown: Tyler Davis was a force to be reckoned with during his senior season at Texas A&M. The Plano, Texas-product posted a team-leading 14.9 points per game during the 2017-2018 season, along with 8.9 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per contest on 58.5 percent shooting from the field. Davis was named First Team All-SEC this past year after leading the league in field goal percentage, effective field goal percentage, total rebounds, offensive rebounds and two-point shots made. After playing only three seasons in College Station, Davis now ranks 2nd on the SEC’s all-time field goal percentage list and 6th in offensive rebounds. During the 2017-2018 season, Davis posted 12 double-doubles in 35 games played.
Scouting Report: Tyler Davis helped diversify his game by adding a three-point shot this past year, but is a prototypical, low-post bruising big man. Davis projects to be an NBA center with his 6-foot-10-inch, 265 pound frame. He has a gamut of go-to moves in the paint and always seems to be in the right place at the right time for offensive rebounds. Davis is an above-average rebounder and has excellent footwork, which contributes to his success in the low-post. Defensively, Davis is a solid shot-blocker and has good lateral movement, helping him defend the weakside and come off of his man to deter shots at the rim. If Davis can continue to develop his outside shot, he’ll have the same success in the NBA and G League that he had in the SEC and NCAA.
Organizational Fit: Last year, the Oklahoma City Blue ranked 7th in the NBA G League in rebounds per game, and will look to crack the top five with some help from Tyler Davis. The Blue have developed frontcourt players such as Dakari Johnson, Mitch McGary, Josh Huestis and Daniel Orton.
