College Breakdown: Thomas Welsh comes to the Denver Nuggets organization fresh off of a four-year stint at UCLA. During his senior season, Welsh was named to the All-Pac-12 Second Team after averaging 12.6 points and 10.8 rebounds per game on 48.5 percent shooting from the field and 40.2 percent shooting from beyond the arc. Welsh’s 1,035 career college rebounds ranks fourth on the Pac-12’s all-time rebounding list, while his 311 offensive rebounds rank third on the Pac-12’s all-time list. Along with his ability to score and crash the boards, Welsh is extremely efficient with the ball in his hands and rarely commits careless giveaways. Welsh’s 7.7 percent turnover rate during his four years at UCLA ranks second in Pac-12 conference history.

Scouting Report: Welsh completely transformed his game during his senior campaign at UCLA. The Redondo Beach, California-native went from a prototypical back-to-the-basket big man with a mid-range shot to a center who can help really spread the floor on offense with a newly acquired 3-point shot. During his first three years at UCLA, Welsh took just one 3-pointer. Last season, Welsh knocked down 45 3-pointers, which ranked third on the Bruins. As a true seven-foot center, Welsh can also score around the basket with a solid set of go-to moves in the low post . He’s got soft hands for a center and is excellent at receiving passes in the post and securing offensive rebounds for second-chance scoring opportunities.
