Player: Jaylen Hoard
College: Wake Forest (2018-2019)
Height/Weight: 6-foot-9, 213 pounds
NBA Team/NBA G League Affiliate: Portland Trail Blazers/TBD
College Breakdown: Hoard spent one season at Wake Forest before declaring for the 2019 NBA Draft. Originally from France, Hoard was the 2018 Jordan Brand Classic International MVP and participated in the 2018 Nike Hoop Summit. Hoard notched 13.1 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game on 45.8% shooting from the field in his lone collegiate season. The Demon Deacons-product ranked 9th in the ACC during the 2018-19 season in rebounds per game, 11th in total offensive rebounds and 12th in 2-point field goals made. Hoard participated with Team France at the FIBA Europe U16 championship in 2015 and the FIBA U17 World Championship in 2016 prior to college.
Scouting Report: At 6-foot-9 with a 7-foot-1-inch wingspan, Hoard projects to be a wing at the NBA and NBA G League level next season. Hoard can space the floor with a solid jump shot, operate offensively out of the low-post and create scoring opportunities for his teammates off the dribble. Hoard’s length and versatility will allow him to guard multiple positions in the NBA, while his quick feet and hands on-the-ball will cause problems for defenders.
Organizational Fit: Hoard will compete with fellow Trail Blazers wings Kent Bazemore, Mario Hezonja, Rodney Hood, Nassir Little and Anthony Tolliver for playing time during his rookie season in Portland. While the Trail Blazers don’t have a direct NBA G League affiliate, former assignees from Portland including Gary Trent Jr. and Anfernee Simons have fared well after spending some time to develop their game in the NBA G League.
