EL SEGUNDO, Calif., (December 6, 2024) — The Salt Lake City Stars (4-6), the official NBA G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, captured their first road win of the season, defeating the South Bay Lakers (7-3) (Los Angeles Lakers affiliate), 115-100, Friday night at UCLA Health Training Center.



Forward Babacar Sane came off the bench to lead the Stars with a team-high 22 points (9-of-14 FG), while grabbing six boards in just 18 minutes of action. Utah Jazz assignment player Cody Williams supported Sane as the team’s second-highest scorer, stuffing the stat sheet with 18 points, six rebounds, two blocks, and a game-high five steals. Fellow Jazz assignment player Kyle Filipowski notched a double-double on 10 points paired with 10 rebounds, in his first G League game for Salt Lake City. Meanwhile, Stars forward Taevion Kinsey had the team’s most efficient scoring night, netting 14 points on a perfect 5-of-5 from the field.



After trading baskets early in the contest, Salt Lake City went on a 10-0 scoring run to take a 19-11 lead with just 5:08 left in the opening frame. Filipowski netted seven in the quarter, as the Stars entered the second ahead, 31-25.



A lights-out shooting effort from Sane helped Salt Lake City pad its lead in the second. The Bignona, Senegal native outscored his previous season-high in the second frame alone, netting 12 points on a near-perfect 5-of-6 shooting from the field. The Stars shot at an efficient 50/50 clip in the quarter, taking a 66-46 advantage into the break.



Salt Lake City&#8217;s on-court dominance continued into the second half, as South Bay found itself down by as many as 29 points ahead of the final buzzer. With the Stars bench playing most of the final frame, Salt Lake City clung tight to its lead, holding the Lakers to 25% shooting from behind the arc, before claiming a 115-109 victory. 



South Bay guard Sir’Jabari Rice led the Lakers offense with a game-high 30 points (13-of-20 FG) to go along with seven rebounds and five assists.



The Stars return home to face the Stockton Kings on Monday, Dec. 9.
