Daishen Nix Named NBA G League Player of the Week

Rio Grande Valley Vipers guard Daishen Nix has been named the NBA G League Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 17-Jan. 23, the league announced today. Nix had his best stretch of basketball as a pro in the four games played during the week, going for 27.5 PTS, 7 REB, 6.3 AST, and 2.8 STL per game as the Vipers went 3-1. Nix was a part of the NBA G League Ignite inaugural class last season after coming in as a five-star recruit and No. 21 on ESPN's Top 100 Rankings of the 2020 class. His development throughout this year has been a sight to see, as he's improved drastically across the board. 2020 (15 games): 8.8 PTS, 5.3 REB, 5.3 AST, 38.4 FG%, 17.6 3P% on 26.5 MIN per game. 2021 (5 games): 27.4 PTS, 6.7 REB, 7.0 AST, 57.3 FG%, 50.0 3P% on 34.6 MIN per game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JmuoeBYlc8 Since going undrafted, Nix signed a two-way contract with the Houston Rockets on October 15. He's appeared in eight games with the Rockets, and scored his first career points on Dec. 27, dropping 11 against the Charlotte Hornets. He also became the second Alaska-born NBA player this season, joining current Sioux Falls Skyforce guard Mario Chalmers. Including the AT&T Winter Showcase and NBA G League Showcase Cup, Nix has had six games of 20+ PTS and three of 30+. Last year, Nix had one game of 20+, scoring 25 versus Raptors 905 on his birthday.
