Iowa Wolves Acquire Returning Player Rights To Craig Randall II

LONG ISLAND (Jan. 29, 2023) – The Long Island Nets, the NBA G League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets, have acquired the returning player rights to guard Derrick Alston Jr. from the Iowa Wolves in exchange for the returning player rights to guard Craig Randall II. The trade is not subject to a physical.

Alston Jr. (6’9”, 190) appeared in 15 NBA G League regular season games (14 starts) last season with Salt Lake City, recording averages of 19.6 points, 6.9 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 34.8 minutes per contest. He also appeared in 14 Showcase Cup games for the Stars last season, posting averages of 13.3 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 26.2 minutes per game. Alston Jr. is currently playing with the Rostock Seawolves in Germany’s Basketball Bundesliga, appearing in 15 games (all starts) thus far this season and averaging 19.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 28.2 minutes per game. Prior to beginning his professional career, Alston Jr. played four collegiate seasons (2017-21) at Boise State, recording averages of 14.2 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 28.0 minutes per contest across 104 games (80 starts). He earned All-Mountain West First Team honors as a senior and All-Mountain West Second Team honors as a junior.

Randall II was originally acquired by Long Island as a local tryout player ahead of the 2021-22 season. He appeared in 27 regular season games with the Nets (all starts) during the 2021-22 season, averaging 26.7 points, 5.4 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 1.2 steals in 40.8 minutes per contest. Randall II also appeared in 14 Showcase Cup games (eight starts) with the LI Nets last season, recording averages of 11.0 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 28.1 minutes per game.
