EDINBURG, Texas (March 28, 2023) – The NBA G League announced today that Rio Grande Valley Vipers head coach Kevin Burleson was named NBA G League Coach of the Month for games played in March.
He becomes the first RGV coach to win the award since former Vipers head coach, Mahmoud Abdelfattah, won the award in Nov. 2021. This achievement also marks the fourth time that a Vipers coach receives the award.
Burleson led the Vipers to an 8-2 month which allowed the team to clinch the final playoffs seed in the Western Conference. This marks the 11th consecutive playoffs appearance for the Vipers in franchise history. Burleson opened up the month of March by leading the team to a six-game win streak.
Burleson will make his first-ever playoffs appearance as a head coach during the Conference Quarterfinals of the 2023 NBA G League Playoffs presented by Google Pixel. The Vipers are set to take on the third seeded South Bay Lakers on Wednesday, March 29 at 3:00 p.m. CT at UCLA Health Training Center in El Segundo, Calif. Fans can stream the game via ESPN2.
