Kuminga, Jack Lead Ignite To 109-104 Win Over Santa Cruz In Debut

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. Feb. 10, 2021 Double-figure outings from three of NBA G League Ignite’s elite young prospects helped the team to a 109-104 victory over Santa Cruz in the inaugural game of 2021 NBA G League single-site action Wednesday at AdventHealth Arena at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex near Orlando, Fla. Ignite’s elite youngsters combined for 44 points, led by Jonathan Kuminga’s 19 points, four assists and two rebounds. Daishen Nix added 12 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists. Jalen Green scored nine of his 11 points in the second half, and finished with five rebounds and two assists. Ignite veteran Jarrett Jack led all scorers with 23 points, and Brandon Ashley scored 17 points alongside nine rebounds. Warriors Rookie Nico Mannion scored 17 points, including a three-pointer and a free throw near the two-minute mark in the final quarter that brought the game within three points. Jordan Poole led Santa Cruz with 22 points, while NBA veteran Jeremy Lin added 18 points in his highly anticipated return to action. Axel Toupane finished with a 14-point, 10-rebound double-double. Santa Cruz built early leads to start the first and second quarters, but Ignite settled in to pull the game back each time. With the Warriors up 43-33 at 9:15, Ignite erupted with an 11-0 run over a three-minute span to retake the lead. After Bobby Brown’s three-pointer at 4:20, Ignite pulled away for good to lead 65-50 at halftime. Ignite led by as many as 20 points in the second half before Mannion helped Santa Cruz cut the Warrior deficit to just three points, 103-100, at 1:41. Both teams are back in action Friday, with Ignite set for Oklahoma City at 3 p.m. ET on ESPNU and Santa Cruz facing Delaware Friday at 7 p.m. ET. on NBC Sports Bay Area.
