Long Island Nets Acquire Returning Player Rights To D.J. Stewart Jr.

LONG ISLAND (July 24, 2023) – The Long Island Nets, the NBA G League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets, have acquired the returning player rights to D.J. Stewart Jr. from the Sioux Falls Skyforce in exchange for the returning player rights to Alondes Williams. The trade is not subject to a physical.

Stewart Jr. (6’6”, 205) appeared in 23 games (all starts) for the Skyforce during the 2022-23 regular season, recording averages of 21.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.2 steals in 36.2 minutes per game. He also appeared in 17 Showcase Cup games (all starts) for Sioux Falls last season, averaging 22.1 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.2 steals in 37.3 minutes per contest. The Grace, Miss., native has played two seasons (2021-23) in the NBA G League between the Skyforce and the Austin Spurs while on a two-way contract with San Antonio and holds career averages of 19.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.2 steals in 34.9 minutes per game in 59 contests (57 starts). Prior to beginning his professional career, Stewart Jr. spent two collegiate seasons (2019-21) at Mississippi State and earned Second Team All-SEC honors from the league’s coaches as a redshirt sophomore.

Williams appeared in 24 games (12 starts) for Long Island during the 2022-23 season and posted averages of 13.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.2 steals in 27.6 minutes per contest. He joined Long Island on Jan. 18, 2023, after originally signing a two-way contract with the Brooklyn Nets on July 4, 2022, and being waived by the team on Jan. 12, 2023.
