Mayan Kiir Becomes First BAL Draftee

Upon being selected 15th overall by the Westchester Knicks in Saturday’s 2022 NBA G League Draft, Mayan Kiir officially became the first Basketball Africa League player to hear his name called in the G League Draft.
Kiir spent the 2022 BAL season with Cobra Sport in his native South Sudan. Over the team’s five games, he averaged 18.8 points and a league-best 11.2 rebounds per contest. He set the league’s single-game rebounding record with his 22-rebound effort against Zamalek. His team ultimately finished fifth in the Nile Conference on the season.
Prior to joining the BAL, the 6-foot-9 Kiir played collegiately at LSU (2017-18), South Florida (2018-19), New Mexico State (2019-21) and Central Baptist College (2021-22).
The Knicks are set to tip off their 2022-23 season against the Maine Celtics in Portland, Maine on Friday, Nov. 4.
