LOS ANGELES — Motor City Cruise forward John Ukomadu won the 2026 NBA G League AT&T Slam Dunk contest, the first Cruise player to win the award in franchise history.
Ukomadu returned to the NBA G League AT&T Slam Dunk contest after competing during NBA All-Star Weekend last season. The 6-foot-8 forward delivered a statement performance on the league’s biggest stage, earning the highest scores of the day to secure the title.
The NBA G League AT&T Slam Dunk featured four competitors — Ukomadu, Mark Armstrong (Texas Legends), Gabe McGlothan (Noblesville Boom) and RJ Meléndez (Mexico City Capitanes) — each given 60 seconds to complete one dunk, evaluated by a five-member panel of judges. Ukomadu earned a score of 94 in the first round, followed with a 90 in the head-to-head final, securing the crown as the G League’s premier dunker and never trailed in the contest.
A Detroit native, Ukomadu began his NBA G League career as an open tryout player prior to the 2024-25 season, paying a $250 nonrefundable fee to compete for a roster spot. In 36 games during the 2026 Tip-Off Tournament and regular season, Ukomadu is averaging 10.8 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 25.9 minutes per game. He also holds the franchise record with 83 career blocks in his first two seasons with the club.
