No. 5 Long Island Upsets No. 1 Osceola To Advance To Eastern Conference Finals

ORLANDO, Fla. (April 5, 2024) – The Long Island Nets, the NBA G League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets, defeated the Osceola Magic, 120-112, in the Eastern Conference Semifinals of the NBA G League Playoffs on Friday evening. 

Six Nets scored in double figures in the win, including Brooklyn two-way guard Jacob Gilyard, who recorded 28 points, four rebounds, nine assists, five steals and one block in 48 minutes. Brooklyn two-way guard Keon Johnson tallied 26 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals in 29 minutes. Brooklyn two-way guard/forward Jaylen Martin posted 21 points, seven rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block in 28 minutes. Long Island forward Kaiser Gates notched 14 points, six rebounds and one block in 37 minutes. Nets guard Kyler Edwards tallied 11 points, six rebounds, five assists and one steal in 43 minutes. Long Island center Patrick Gardner posted 10 points, seven rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block in 17 minutes.

Long Island got off to a steady start in the first quarter as Osceola turned the ball over four times. The two teams went into the second period tied, 28-28. The Nets turned up the heat, going on a 6-0 run in the last three minutes to outscore the Magic 35-29 in the second quarter. Long Island closed the first half ahead by six, 63-57.

The Nets worked hard to maintain their lead in the third quarter, but Osceola outscored the Nets 31-22 in the period to turn the tides overall. The Magic closed the third quarter ahead by three, 88-85. Long Island battled hard in the fourth quarter, going on an 11-1 run in the opening five minutes of the period. The Nets continued their strong play in the quarter, outscoring the Magic 35-24 to go on to defeat Osceola by eight, 120-112.

Orlando two-way guard Mac McClung posted 29 points, three rebounds and one assist in 42 minutes. Magic forward Trevelin Queen recorded 26 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, two steals and one block in 39 minutes.

Long Island will advance to face Maine on the road in the NBA G League Eastern Conference Finals on Sunday, April 7, at 7 p.m. ET.
