Vipers Obtain Third Place Finish In 2023 FIBA Intercontinental Cup

Tenerife, Spain. (Feb. 12, 2023) – The Rio Grande Valley Vipers, the NBA G League affiliate of the Houston Rockets, defeated US Monastir 107-84 on Sunday afternoon during the third-place game at the 2023 FIBA Intercontinental Cup in Santiago Martin Arena in San Cristobal de La Laguna, Tenerife (Spain).

The Vipers got off to a hot start in the first quarter as the team led 12-6 with 6:45 to go. RGV kept the momentum going throughout the quarter which allowed the team to walk away with a 14-point lead and a score of 34-20 at the end of the quarter.  

During the second quarter the Vipers brought the heat as the team went on to score 29 points while only allowing US Monastir to score 17 points which resulted in a 63-37 lead for RGV at the half.

In the third quarter RGV obtained its biggest lead of the game, thus far, as the team led by as many as 32 points. At the end of the quarter the team led 87-55.

In the fourth quarter the Vipers went on to extend its lead by 20 points and managed to walk away with a 107-84 victory. The team was led by Jarrett Culver with 34 points. Cassius Stanley scored 17 points followed by Jalen Lecque with 12 points and Wayne Stewart Jr. with 10 points. 

RGV returns to the court after the NBA All-Star Break for back-to-back action on Wednesday, Feb. 22 and Thursday, Feb. 23 as the team takes on the South Bay Lakers at Bert Ogden Arena. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. CT. 

On Wednesday night the Vipers will be hosting Faith and Family night. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a championship replica banner, courtesy of Saenz Pharmacy. The fun continues after the game with a post-game concert presented by BT Church. On Thursday night the first 500 fans in attendance will receive a Vipers jersey.
