Wisconsin Acquires Returning Rights to Skylar Mays and Jaylen Sims In Exchange For Stephen Thompson Jr.

OSHKOSH, Wis. (Sept. 23, 2026) – The Wisconsin Herd, NBA G League affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks, has acquired the returning player rights to Skylar Mays and Jaylen Sims, along with a first-round pick in the 2026 NBA G League Draft, from the Iowa Wolves in exchange for the returning player rights to Stephen Thompson Jr.

Mays, a 6-foot-3, 205-pound guard, was selected by the Atlanta Hawks with the 50th overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. He has appeared in 105 NBA games with the Atlanta Hawks, Portland Trail Blazers and Los Angeles Lakers, averaging 4.3 points, 1.2 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game. The Louisiana native has also appeared in 56 NBA G League games across the College Park Skyhawks, Delaware Blue Coats, Mexico City Capitanes, South Bay Lakers and Iowa Wolves, averaging 14.6 points, 3.7 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game.

Prior to his professional career, Mays played four seasons at LSU from 2016-20. As a senior, he averaged 16.7 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game while earning First Team All-SEC honors and being named the 2020 Academic All-American of the Year.

Sims, a 6-foot-7, 217-pound guard, spent the past four seasons with the Greensboro Swarm. The North Carolina native appeared in 134 NBA G League games with Greensboro from 2022-23 through 2025-26, averaging 15.9 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game while shooting 44.6% from the field, 36.6% from 3-point range and 83.5% from the free-throw line. During his time with Greensboro, Sims earned an NBA call-up with the Charlotte Hornets and became the Swarm’s all-time leading scorer during the 2024-25 season.

Prior to his professional career, Sims played four seasons at UNC Wilmington from 2018-22. As a senior, he averaged 16.4 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game while earning First Team All-CAA honors.
