Austin Spurs Name Will Voigt Head Coach

AUSTIN (June 28, 2023) – The Austin Spurs today announced that the team has named Will Voigt as head coach, making him the ninth head coach in franchise history. In addition, Willis Hall and Pierre Parker have been named assistant coaches on Voigt’s staff, joining Jesse Childs who returns for his third season as an assistant.

Voigt (VOYT) most recently served one season as head coach for Zamalek of the Egyptian Basketball Super League where the team finished third in the 2022 Basketball Africa League Playoffs. Prior to Zamalek, Voigt was hired as head coach for the Angola National Team in 2017 and helped qualify Angola for the 2019 FIBA World Cup.

After an internship with the Los Angeles Clippers to begin his coaching career, Voigt spent two seasons with the Spurs as a video coordinator from 1999-2001. After his stint in San Antonio, he spent time at the University of Texas (2001-02) and Metro State in Denver (2002-03). Voigt landed his first head coaching position in Norway with the Ulriken Eagles (2003-06) prior to returning home to become head coach of the American Basketball Association’s Vermont Frost Heaves (2006-09). In 2009, Voigt was named head coach of the Bakersfield Jam of the G League, where he spent five seasons before relocating to China to coach the Shanxi Dragons in the Chinese Basketball Association (2014-15).

A standout moment for the Cabot, VT native, Voigt led the Nigerian National Team to their first ever FIBA Afrobasket Championship win in 2015, automatically qualifying them to compete in the 2016 Olympics in Rio.

Hall joins Austin after most recently serving as a player development assistant for the San Antonio Spurs. Last season was Hall’s seventh season with the Silver and Black, starting as a quality assurance assistant in 2016. He played professionally for one season with Lusitania Expert in Portugal where he averaged 15.2 points and 8.3 rebounds in 21 games after appearing in 137 games for the College of Charleston.

Parker comes to Austin after serving as a basketball operations video assistant for San Antonio last season. Prior to the Spurs, Parker was head coach for the Under 21 ASVEL Basket team, leading them to their first Euroleague Junior qualifying tournament win in franchise history. The Dieppe, France native also served as lead director of skills and development for the Tony Parker Camp for 10 years.
