Charlotte Hornets Sign Elfrid Payton To 10-Day Contract

February 7, 2025 – Charlotte Hornets President of Basketball Operations Jeff Peterson announced today the team has signed free agent guard Elfrid Payton to a 10-day contract. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Payton appeared in seven contests (three starts) for the New Orleans Pelicans this season, recording 6.7 points, 3.4 rebounds, 6.9 assists and 1.4 steals in 20.6 minutes per game. He dished a career-high 21 assists at Indiana (Nov. 25), the second-most in a game by any player this year (22, Trae Young). Payton has suited up for the Orlando Magic, Phoenix Suns, New York Knicks and Pelicans throughout his nine-year career, averaging 10.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 1.2 steals across 507 outings (398 starts). He was originally selected 10th overall in the 2014 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers following three seasons at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
