Sykhawks Name Ryan Silverstein As GM And Sanjay Lumpkin As Head Coach

ATLANTA – The Atlanta Hawks and College Park Skyhawks announced today that Ryan Silverstein has been named the franchise’s fifth general manager, while Sanjay Lumpkin will serve as the team’s fifth head coach and Reggis Onwukamuche will serve as the team’s first associate head coach. Both Lumpkin and Onwukamuche played for the Skyhawks during the 2019-20 season, College Park’s first season in the Southside.

Silverstein, entering his 10^th season with Atlanta, will continue his role within the Hawks front office as vice president, cap strategy & player personnel, while Lumpkin and Onwukamuche will remain assistant coaches for Atlanta under Head Coach Quin Snyder.

Silverstein takes over for Aaron Evans, who served as the team’s general manager for the past two seasons, while Lumpkin will take over for Steve Klei, who spent the past two seasons in a dual role as head coach of the Skyhawks and assistant coach with the Hawks. Evans has been elevated to a pro scout within the Hawks front office, and Klei will return to the Hawks bench as a full-time assistant coach.

A Southern California native, Silverstein brings NBA G League knowledge and experience to College Park, having served as basketball operations coordinator and coaching assistant for the Skyhawks in their inaugural season. He began his career with the Hawks during the 2017-18 season as a front office assistant in basketball operations.

Silverstein earned his Juris Doctor from Georgia State University College of Law with a focus on sports and entertainment law and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sports Management and a certificate in entrepreneurship from the University of Michigan.

“Sanjay will be a tremendous coach for the Skyhawks this year. He is an excellent teacher and has a unique ability to connect and communicate with players, especially as they look to maximize their experience with the Skyhawks,” said Hawks Head Coach Quin Snyder. “He knows how critical player development is to our long-term success and the Skyhawks are a central component to our team identity. He is a natural leader and his experience coaching summer league, as well as his own background as a G League player, will only enhance his success as coach of the Skyhawks.” 

Lumpkin, Atlanta’s 2026 NBA Summer League Head Coach in Las Vegas, will be entering his fourth season as an assistant coach with the Hawks. He came to Atlanta from the Utah Jazz where he served as a player development coach during the 2022-23 season, following two seasons on Utah’s DAV staff.

Selected with the 21^st overall pick in the 2018 NBA G League Draft by the Erie BayHawks, Atlanta’s then NBA G League affiliate, Lumpkin played two seasons in the G League. After one season in Erie, Lumpkin appeared in 33 games for the College Park Skyhawks in their inaugural season.

A native of Wayzata, Minnesota, Lumpkin holds a degree in learning & organizational change from Northwestern, where he also earned a Master’s in Sports Administration.

Onwukamuche is entering his fourth season with the Hawks and third as an assistant coach, after spending the 2023-24 campaign as a player development coach. He joined Atlanta following one season with Milwaukee as assistant video coordinator/player development (2022-23) and one season with Utah in DAV (2021-22).

A former NBA G League player, Onwukamuche appeared in 144 career games, suiting up for the Erie BayHawks, Lakeland Magic and College Park Skyhawks. He was also part of the Hawks’ mini-camp roster in September 2020.

The Houston, Texas native is a graduate of Prairie View A&M, seeing action in 64 games for the Panthers over the course of two collegiate seasons (2013-15).
