2024 NBA Draft Profile: Babacar Sane

Prior to joining Ignite, Babacar Sane attended NBA Academy Africa, headquartered in his native Senegal. He became one of the 12 prospects from the program to be selected to participate in the 2022 Basketball Africa League (BAL) season through the BAL Elevate program, playing for Dakar Université Club. Sane also went on to play with the Senegalese National Team at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 African Qualifiers after previously representing Senegal at the 2020 FIBA U18 African Championship, where he averaged 14.0 points and 6.0 rebounds in five games and helped the team reach the final.
Following the 2022 BAL season, Sane joined Ignite in October of that year. In his first season with the team, the 6-foot-7 forward averaged 6.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in 41 games of action during the 2022-23 season. That campaign saw the 20-year-old forward flash signs of athletic dominance to come, including an double-double against the Fort Wayne Mad Ants in January where he scored 17 points and pulled down an Ignite team-record 18 rebounds while also draining a career-high three 3-pointers. Year two with Ignite saw him bump his numbers up to 10.6 points and 5.7 rebounds in 31 games, including eight 15+ point performances and two 20-10 double-doubles.

Top Performance:
Sane had a career night on Feb. 13 against the Indiana Mad Ants, stuffing the stat sheet in all areas. He set a new career-high with 23 points to go along with a season-high 13 rebounds while matching his career-high with 2 steals as well as 2 blocks overall on the day.
All-Star Weekend 2024:
Sane was among those selected to play in this season’s NBA G League Up Next Game presented by AT&T, marking his second-straight appearance in the game. He posted 2 points and 3 rebounds in Team Earn Your Leisure’s Semifinals win over Team Strictly BBall before adding 3 points off the bench in the Finals against Team Ball Is Life as his team was named G League Up Next Game champs.
