Best Games To Watch This Week: March 5

Joe DiProsperos /March 5, 2023

Another Sunday, another loaded week of G League action on tap!

With playoff action fast approaching, there’s a lot to look forward to in the immediate future. We’ve got an intriguing individual matchup, elite units on either side of the ball going at it, and clashes of each conference’s top teams.

Here are just some of the matchups absolutely worth checking out.

Capital City Go-Go v. Mexico City Capitanes (March 6 at 9 pm/et on NBAGLeague.com)

Two of the very best big men in the league will be featured in this showdown. Capital City’s recent addition, Jay Huff, has been arguably the G’s premier shot-blocker, with his 3.5 blocks per game by far the most among all eligible players. Meanwhile, NBA vet Kenneth Faried has also put together an impressive regular season for the Capitanes. Not only is he third in blocks per game (2.1), but he’s also third in the league in rebounding (12.1 REB). Expect plenty of shot-blocking mastery in this one.

Ontario Clippers v. Grand Rapids Gold (March 7 at 7 pm/et on NBA TV)

If top-notch defense is your thing, then look no further than this Ontario and Grand Rapids matchup. The Gold own the G’s second-best defensive rating at the moment (109.1), allowing the fourth-fewest points per game (109.6) with opponents shooting just 45.5% from the field against them. The Clippers have been similarly formidable on that end, ranking just behind Grand Rapids in defensive rating while falling a spot above them in points allowed per contest (108.5).

Long Island Nets v. Maine Celtics (March 9 at 7 pm/et on ESPN+)

On one hand, this is set to be a battle of two of the best teams in the Eastern Conference. Yet it’s also going to be a showdown between the G’s top-rated defense in Long Island and a top-rated offense in Maine. Over the course of the Nets’ current 14-game winning streak, they’ve taken down four squads ranked in the top ten in scoring, including the highest-scoring team in the league in Delaware. Meanwhile, Maine’s recent six-game heater saw them beat top-ten defensive units in Cleveland and College Park to maintain their spot among the class of the East.

Stockton Kings v. South Bay Lakers (March 11 at 8 pm/et on NBAGLeague.com)

Aside from being right there in the mix for a top seed in the West, Stockton and South Bay remain two of the most well-rounded collectives in the G. They rank first and second in offensive rating, with Stockton now leading the way after dropping 120 points on better than 50% shooting in back-to-back games. Both squads are also in the top six in defensive rating, with South Bay currently having the slight edge after rising up to fourth in the G in that category. As far as two-way basketball goes, this could be as good as it gets.
