Best Games To Watch This Week: Nov. 27
Joe DiProsperos /November 27, 2023
It’s Monday, which means it’s time to gear up for another full week of G League action.
Though the season is still very much in its infancy, there are plenty of intriguing matchups on the horizon. Whether it's battles for positioning in pods or showdowns between elite offenses and defenses, there’s a lot to look forward to.
Check out just some of the matchups you won’t want to miss in the near future.
Westchester Knicks (5-2) v. Maine Celtics (4-2) - Nov. 29 @ 7 PM/ET on ESPN+
Two of the best teams in the East Pod will square off for early control of the top spot. Maine’s offense has been excellent, ranking 2nd in offensive rating (116.9) as JD Davison (25.7 PTS, 9.2 AST, 5.7 REB) has started off the year as locked in as anybody in the G. Meanwhile, Westchester has been dialed in on the defensive end, clocking in at 4th in defensive rating (101.2) while allowing their opponents to shoot just 41.8% from the field, good for the third-lowest rate in the G.
Long Island Nets (4-2) v. Delaware Blue Coats (3-3) - Nov. 29 @ 7 PM/ET on ESPN+
It’ll be a rematch of last season’s Eastern Conference Finals that saw Delaware take down Long Island en route to winning their first G League title. Delaware has been led to this point by four 20+ PPG scorers in Terquavion Smith (24.3 PTS), David Duke Jr. (23.6 PTS), Ricky Council IV (23.0 PTS), and Javonte Smart (20.8 PTS). For the Nets, Two-Way forward Jalen Wilson has been awesome as well, currently averaging 17.5 PTS and 7.2 REB while shooting over 38% from deep on the season.
Rio Grande Valley Vipers (4-2) v. Mexico City Capitanes (4-3) - Nov. 30 @ 8:30 PM/ET on ESPN+
Rio Grande Valley and Mexico City may share the same pod, but they’ve been winning in two different ways. The Vipers boast the highest-scoring offense in the G, averaging over 130 points per game with the likes of Houston Rockets assignee Cam Whitmore (24.3 PTS, 6.3 REB), Darius Days (22.7 PTS, 8.8 REB) and Jermaine Samuels Jr. (20.5 PTS, 7.2 REB) leading the way. On the contrary, Mexico City has been stopping teams from scoring, allowing the fifth-fewest points per game (103.1) while currently ranking sixth in defensive rating (101.7).
Birmingham Squadron (4-2) v. Austin Spurs (2-4) - Dec. 1 @ 8 PM/ET on Tubi
Birmingham currently finds itself at the top of the South pod thanks to a top-ten rated defense that ranks second in defensive rebound percentage (75.5%). Swingman Landers Nolley II (19.5 PTS, 9.0 REB) has gotten off to an impressive start to the season, logging three games with at least 20 points and 10 rebounds to this point. On the other hand, Two-Way big man Dominick Barlow has been absolutely dominant for Austin so far, averaging over 28 points and 7 rebounds per game in five outings.
